CDEnviro solution helps tackle underground blockage at world-renowned site in Switzerland
A system designed by waste management specialists CDEnviro has helped clear problematic pipes 200 meters below the Large Hadron Collider at the CERN Institute in Switzerland.
A CDEnviro client, was the fifth company asked to clear a 300mm diameter drainage pipe that was almost completely filled with chalk deposit in the huge Cyclotron service tunnels, but the first to be able to resolve the issue.
The 350hp diesel compact pumping unit designed by CDEnviro is small enough to be used in the passage under the actual road, at the bottom of the tunnel’s circular shape and powerful enough to clear the blockage successfully.
Before they could begin work, the team had to spend three days learning all the safety measures necessary to work inside the CERN labs.
The system was adapted from its original design, to clean drainage pipes in Switzerland’s many motorway tunnels.
