End of Waste Conference to help the waste and recycling sector with the challenges of implementing complex EU criteria

The impact of end of waste regulations, designed to divert waste materials from landfill, will be addressed at the End of Waste and Quality Protocols Conference. This specialist forum for businesses within the waste and recycling industry takes place on 30th January 2014, at 76 Portland Place, London.

The event, organised by the Environment Media Group and supported by the Environment Agency and the Environmental Services Association, will provide delegates in the waste and recycling industry with a detailed analysis of criteria for the following sectors:

• Biowaste and organics

• Glass

• Paper

• Plastics

• Metals.

The end of waste regulations set out when certain waste stops being classified as waste and gains the status of a marketable product or a secondary raw material. The regulations began with iron, steel and aluminium scrap in October 2011. This was followed by glass cullet, adopted from June 2013. Further European Commission end of waste regulations for other materials, such as scrap copper, are currently being addressed.

This one day conference, split into four sessions will:

• Review policy and regulation and provide practical guidance on how to achieve end of waste status

• Share industry best practice in paper, glass, plastics, metals and biowaste recycling

• Explore recovery options via the production of refuse derived fuel (RDF), and the analysis of markets

• Share questions and answers and enable networking opportunities

• Close with a panel debate addressing whether the waste industry is losing out due to end of waste regulations.

Keynote speakers at the event include Peter Davis, Director General from the British Plastics Federation; Roger Hoare, Environment and Business Manager at the Environment Agency; Stuart Pohler, Recovered Paper Sector Manager at the Confederation of Paper Industries; Ian Hetherington from the British Metals Recycling Association; Nina Sweet OBE, Organics Sector Specialist from WRAP and Iris Soler, National Environment Permitting Manager from Veolia ES.
