FATBOXX® – the advanced solution for safe recovery of used fats and cooking oils

– Pioneering collection system for catering, food and hospitality industries from Peter Ridley Waste Systems.

Restaurants, cafés, hotels and food manufacturers use huge amounts of cooking oil and fats every single day – and these need to be collected in a safe and environmentally-friendly way. That’s why FATBOXX®, available in the UK from Peter Ridley Waste Systems, is taking the sector by storm.  These valuable resources can now be collected simply, for safe recovery, with no fuss or mess.

FATBOXX® is a wheeled container, specially designed to separately collect a wide range of food-related materials including used cooking fats, oil and grease; food waste from the catering or food processing sector; and animal by-products from meat rendering plants and slaughterhouses. Commercial recycling companies find that FATBOXX® helps them deliver a better level of service to their food sector customers, because the bins are so easy to manoeuvre and clean. Features and benefits include:

  • Lockable, sealed lid is air and liquid tight, preventing leaks and unpleasant odours
  • Liquids as hot as 110 degrees can be placed in the bin without distorting the body
  • Viewable measuring scale down the body allows easy monitoring of liquid levels
  • ‘Big Foot’ Wheels mean higher load bearing capability, moving easily in and out of premises
  • No corners or edges to trap residues make the bins easier to empty and clean
  • EN840 certified – the recognised European Standard for mobile waste containers

FATBOXX® helps recycling companies to offer a more tailored service to its food sector clients, helping them contribute to the circular economy by collecting their used edible fats, oils and food waste separately. These renewable resources can then be used to produce various types of energy such as biodiesel or methane. Interest in this process is gathering pace, thanks to pilot schemes like the one spearheaded by the Mayor of London late last year, when buses running from the Barking depot were partly fuelled by biodiesel in a bid to help cut carbon emissions.

Without reliable collection systems, used cooking fats, oil and grease could be disposed of carelessly, causing drain blockages that result in significant costs to business for environmental clean-up. There are also increasing legal requirements for compliance, making collection through commercial recycling services a popular choice.

Ross Murdoch, General Manager of Henry Colbeck Limited’s Waste Edible Oil Division, a leading collector of waste edible oil and fat in the fish and chip and foodservice sector, said: “80-85% of our customers are now using the FATBOXX, with more requesting the container every day. Their professional appearance, manoeuvrability and ease of collection and cleaning, make the FATBOXX container perfect”.
