Getting to know one of CBI’s newest client’s Spedian

Revolutionary vehicle graphics frame system – fully reusable and recyclable

• What is your product?

The lightest vehicle graphics frame system in the world. Developed in conjunction with 3M, it is also the only patented and tested ‘invisible’ product of its kind, to exist in the global market. It is fully reusable and recyclable.

• How does it work?

This system does not require any bolts, rivets, screws, or aluminium or plastic frame. Instead panels are simply fixed to any vehicle with a rigid side, utilising a state-of-the-art product from 3M, called Dual-Lock™. This is applied to the vehicle perimeter, and is also used on the underneath of the Spedian advertising panel, to ensure a robust engagement between the graphics and vehicle substrate.

Panel tension is achieved evenly, both vertically and horizontally. The static and imposed loads are therefore spread across the entire panel and along the full length of the frame, resulting in a stronger and safer structure.

The advertising panels are interchangeable. The communication message and branding on the side of the vehicle – displayed in full colour graphics – can therefore be refreshed with ease. One council client is currently displaying a ‘free town centre parking’ graphic on its waste trucks, which will be quickly removed when the offer expires and can be saved for next year. Customers can utilise Spedian’s design service, or their own.

• Where would it ideally be used?

The system can be applied to any type of rigid-sided vehicle, from a small van up to a 13.5m articulated lorry. Its flexibility means it can also be applied, simply, around curves and on vehicles with cut-away rears. In fact it is the only system in the world that fits neatly onto curved aerodynamic vehicles. Because it can be easily fitted and removed, it is also popular with vehicle leasing firms.

• How is it different?

It is the lightest vehicles graphics system in the world, weighing only 35g per linear metre, compared to competing systems which weigh 1000g.

It is the only graphics system that can be removed from the vehicle without causing any damage to the vehicle substrate.

The patented technology also incorporates a ventilation system which creates increased suction and panel adherence, according to the vehicle’s speed. It will not ‘billow’, and is also stronger and more tear-resistant.

• What benefits does it offer?

With less components, larger and higher quality graphics, system durability and reusability, the Spedian solution delivers multi-faceted value for money.

Installation takes less than an hour, resulting in minimal downtime for the client. Organisations can opt to fit the system themselves, given it is very straightforward, or Spedian will install to suit the client’s schedule – overnight or during weekends if required.

An in-built drainage system prevents excessive water accumulation from rain or vehicle washing. This protects the graphics and vehicle from corrosion or substrate damage.

• Where has it been used?

A popular choice for local authority waste trucks, the Spedian system has also been used in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada and South Africa on large freight lorries for household names including McDonalds, Sainsbury’s and Costco.

• Cost?

Whilst incredibly innovative, Spedian’s vehicle frame system is actually the lowest priced in the market.

• Any savings?

Because the system is reusable, the panels can simply be rolled and stored neatly in tubes until they are next required. The customer does not have to re-invest in graphic re-printing. The system doesn’t affect fuel consumption whatsoever, and the impact on pay load is minimal. Some organisations also sell the branding space to generate revenue.

• What about maintenance?

The Spedian frame system is maintenance free and is guaranteed for the vehicle’s usable life. The graphics are colourfast guaranteed from all-weathering for 12 months minimum, so will stay as clean as the truck/van.

• How is it future-proofed?

Spedian’s solution has been purposefully manufactured to represent the next generation of vehicle graphics systems. The solution was tested over a two year period at the world-leading Motor Industry Research Association – it offers benefits that customers don’t even think are possible.
