Julius Rutherfoord launches ground-breaking biometric based time and attendance system

London specialist in quality cleaning, Julius Rutherfoord, has launched a ground-breaking biometric based time and attendance system. Use of biometric identification technology safeguards the security of sites and the cleaning team, whilst ensuring clients receive the level of service they deserve.

Biometric identification, whereby a person’s identification can be verified through unique physical attributes, such as their finger print, offers the most advanced and reliable means of ensuring only the right personnel enter client premises.

Managing a large number of mobile cleaners across hundreds of sites is a challenge. Following a successful trial period, Julius Rutherfoord initially rolled out biometric time and attendance devices to fifty of its largest contracts. Devices were installed in the remaining sites by the end of 2015.

Instead of using time and attendance phone systems or log books, like most other cleaning companies, Julius Rutherfoord cleaning staff scan their fingerprint at the time of the start and end of their shift. The data is fed through to its head office in real time with any discrepancies instantly passed on to our managers via email to their iPad device.

The biometric devices are fitted with a 3G sim allowing them to work wirelessly on all of its sites. All approved staff have their fingerprints pre-registered on the system.

Benefits of the system include:

  • Recognition and proof of operative attendance on site
  • Management information including evidence of schedule variation and absence management
  • Improved client transparency of service delivery
  • Lone worker compliance
  • Reduction in operative pay queries and disputes
  • Improved safety and security

The technology is just one of the methods that Julius Rutherfoord use to ensure client security. When recruiting staff, it uses similar passport and identity document scanning technology as that used by Customs personnel at international airports. This technology enables fake passports or ID documents to be identified in seconds which means that clients can be guaranteed a 100% legal workforce

Chris Parkes, Operations Director at Julius Rutherfoord said: “It’s more important than ever to have appropriate security measures in place. Using ground-breaking technology we give our clients peace of mind, whilst our head office can check whether we’re accurately meeting the requirements set out in the cleaning specification.”
