New Modules And Enhancements Added To World Leading Sound Mapping Software, SoundPLANnoise 8.0

Noise mapping software specialists, SoundPLAN GmbH have added new modules and enhancements to the latest version of their world-leading mapping software, SoundPLANnoise.

Version 8.0 of the software which models levels and dispersion of noise in a variety of situations from individual rooms to entire countries now includes a new module – Room Acoustics.

Revolutionary new software can accurately assess noise around corners

Revolutionary new software can accurately assess noise around cornersThe revolutionary new extension to SoundPLAN’s indoor sound module ends difficulties in generating quick and accurate estimates of the movement of sound around corners. It calculates sound propagation through the use of sound particles, helping those wishing to address and mitigate nuisance noise in buildings.

Dr. Thomas Judd, software developer at SoundPLAN, explains: “Getting a realistic level when the sound source is around the corner from the receiver is a real challenge. It gets even worse around two corners. The current methods try their best, but the results can be very rough if you need your calculations to fit comfortably on a normal computer.

“The theory behind sound particle diffraction has been around for decades and is well tested, but we are the first company to make software commercially available that can implement it accurately.”

The sound particle method developed by SoundPLAN is likened to releasing bouncing balls in a room. The way they move around and ‘bump’ into a receiver can be measured and the energy from all the particles that hit the receiver can be used to calculate an accurate sound level.

The Room Acoustics Module also has the following features:

  • Capacity to calculate a room response and derive room acoustical parameters such as reverberation time, speech intelligibility index, and Early Decay Time and many more
  • A new object type ‘measurement path’ which can fully support the automatic evaluation of rooms according to ISO 3382:3, E VDI 2569 and DIN 18041 standards
  • Additional and improved documentation features
  • Auralization which enables you to hear how your room sounds and assess the impact of proposed room acoustic improvements

This version of the mapping software already has an interface with Googlemaps and OpenStreetMap and meets the latest noise standards including the Common Noise Assessment Methods in Europe (CNOSSOS-EU) and conforms to ISO/TR 17534-3:2015.
