Outstanding achievements of our armed forces honoured at Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners (WCEC) annual Military Awards Ceremony

The annual Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners (WCEC) Military Awards Ceremony has once again recognised the work and achievements of medical staff in the military. This year’s event took place at the prestigious Fishmongers’ Hall, by London Bridge. It celebrated military doctors, environmental health technicians (EHTs) from the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) and the RAF Environmental Health Cadre, and the WCEC’s affiliated Cadet Units. 

Military Awards 2015Trophies, medals and purses were presented as follows:

Doctor

  • Captain Rachel Pearson – RAMC PGMO General Practice Award; for being the highest achiever during final examinations for 2015.

EHTs

  • Sergeant Claire Steele – RAMC Senior NCO Environmental Health Technician Award
  • Lance Corporal Alice Groves – RAMC Junior NCO Environmental Health Technician Award
  • Major Jonathan Brice – RAMC Reserve Environmental Health Award Officer
  • Corporal James Griffin – RAF Environmental Health Technician

EHTs work to promote and maintain health and prevent disease – which is vital for military units, wherever they are in the world. The job involves advising on all aspects of environmental health, health and safety, occupational hygiene and environmental protection, both in the barracks and under field conditions.

The award winning work included support to Forward Health Protection in Sierra Leone during the height of the Ebola outbreak and sourcing and assessing the water supplies for thousands of displaced people in Kathmandu following the Nepal earthquake.

Cadets

  • Sea Cadet 1 James Valder – Best Sea Cadet – TS Narvik
  • Marine Cadet 2 Matthew Langdon – Best Royal Marine Cadet – TS Narvik
  • Cadet Corporal Kelly Cummins – Best Army Cadet – 75 (RAMC) Detachment
  • Cadet Flight Sergeant Robert Wall – Best Air Training Corps Cadet – 50F (Lambeth) Squadron

Each cadet was recognised for their accomplishments within their units, their leadership skills, their achievements in recent examinations, as well as the different events for which they had been chosen to represent their units.

Supporting the services

As part of the WCEC’s annual financial support to its affiliates, cheques were presented to Major General Jeremy Rowan OBE, Director General Army Medical Services; Lt (SCC) Bill Collier RMR, Officer in Command, T.S. Narvik; Colonel Simon Ettinghausen, Commandant SELACF (Greater London South East Sector Army Cadet Force); and Wing Commander Colin Gale, Officer Commanding, London Wing ATC at the end of the ceremony.

The Worshipful Company is proud to support education and training as part of its mission to maintain high standards of practice and integrity within the cleaning industry.
