Local recruitment and living wage important part of contract
Trigion Security Services is working with UK construction company CWCL at the prestigious Southbank Place development in the heart of London. The development of eight new tower blocks located near to Waterloo Station and the London Eye on the south bank of the Thames will cost £1.2billion and take five years to complete.
As part of its role, Trigion is working closely with CWCL to meet the planning consent requirement for 10% of workers on the site to be from the local area. As well as looking to recruit security operatives from the area, Trigion is also able to call on a number of local relief officers already on its books, if required at the site.
Trigion is overseeing security for the development as it moves from its current status to luxurious residential accommodation and commercial office space.
Neil Ricketts, Technical Services Director at Trigion, explained: “This is a complex project incorporating both manned guarding and electronic security solutions – operated remotely from our security operations centre – so that there is always a high level of security in place.
“We’re really pleased to be working closely with CWCL not just on its security, but also to help it achieve its aim to employ local people on a fair wage.
“A development of this stature will have a tremendous impact on the surrounding area and community. Everyone involved in the project is keen to have as many local people as possible employed on the site, enjoying the benefits that come with the redevelopment of the area.
“Everyone working on the Southbank Place contract will be paid at least the London Living Wage, thanks to both our companies’ vigorous promotion of the scheme. As Recognised Living Wage Service Providers, the two companies believe that the costs of paying a fair wage are outweighed by the increase in commitment and motivation from those receiving it, which leads to a better service.”
