The JCB 5CX Wastemaster is a unique model in the waste industry, as no other manufacturer offers a machine that comes close in terms of the number of jobs performed. You could refer to it as a great ‘all-rounder’ – one single model that is adaptable enough to carry out many different jobs.
This 5CX Wastemaster can handle a huge number of tasks including: moving containers; compacting; picking and sorting; loading; materials handling; sweeping up on site; pallet handling; and roading in and out.
The 5CX Wastemaster is purpose-built for busy civic amenity (CA) sites. Extra height is provided by hydraulic stabiliser legs, giving operators much better visibility; while the extra-long excavator enables the machine to reach the far end of bins when compacting.
Versatility makes this machine different – there is nothing else like it in the recycling and waste management sector. The ability to switch attachments quickly means that the machine can perform a wide range of jobs – setting it apart from the ‘one task’ machines usually found on CA sites. Traditionally, machines found on CA sites are solely used for compacting – once that job is done, the machine is left inactive for significant periods of time. In contrast, the 5CX Wastemaster will carry out many more jobs than simply compacting, including: moving containers, picking and sorting, handling palletised loads and keeping the site clear of loose or spilled materials.
The ability to perform a wide range of tasks is the major benefit of the 5CX Wastemaster. The machine can be used throughout the entire working day, helping a CA site to operate at optimum efficiency. Being road legal, organisations that are responsible for more than one location will reap massive additional value as the machine can easily travel between different sites, avoiding the need for more than one machine. In addition, operators are promised a comfortable ride thanks to in-cab features such as heated air suspension seat; coffee machine; heated front screen; and integrated cool box for refreshments.
Two great examples of the 5CX Wastemaster being used successfully in recycling environments come from Robert Hopkins Environmental, a waste management service provider based in West Bromwich in the UK; and BAV Branau in Germany. Videos showing the machines in action can be seen at www.jcb.co.uk
The price will vary depending on individual specifications, but many sites find that the 5CX Wastemaster is substantially less expensive than the models traditionally found on a CA site. Not only is the machine less expensive, but because the machine is more versatile and can do more jobs, there is no need for it to be parked in a corner waiting for a relevant task to arise. This multifaceted machine can be used continuously throughout the day, making it much more cost effective – in essence one 5CX Wastemaster can replace and/or do the work of at least two other machines.
Savings can be made by having just one machine instead of several, which helps to cut down on the costs associated with maintenance and fuelling. Fuel consumption can be reduced by JCB’s EcoRoad technology. The benefits include a variable displacement piston pump that automatically reduces hydraulic flow when it’s not required, therefore increasing efficiency; auto back off power brakes that reduce friction and therefore drag; and the Smoothride system, which prevents the machine from bouncing when driven at speed, enhancing operator comfort and minimising material spillage.
JCB machines are known for their build quality and reliability, not to mention the legendary back-up and after-sales service. If machines are maintained correctly, and serviced regularly, they can be operational for many years. JCB also has the ability to refurbish/remanufacture used engines. This is an affordable alternative to investing in a brand new engine, which also helps to save valuable resources.
Advances in technology mean that now fleets can be managed much more effectively – and from a distance. The 5CX Wastemaster features the innovative software system, JCB Livelink, which uses telematics to enable site or facility managers to track their fleet remotely, receiving crucial information online, by email, and via mobile phone or tablet. The highly responsive, 24/7 nature of the technology helps potential problems to be picked up immediately, meaning that costly delays caused by machines being out of action, or not deployed to give optimum results, can be avoided. It also helps with security, highlighting when a machine moves out of a predetermined zone, or across geographical borders, warning managers of any possible suspicious behaviour. Similarly, curfew alerts indicate when machines are being subject to unauthorised usage, at undesignated times.
As the recycling and waste management industry develops, the versatility of the 5CX Wastemaster will help it keep pace with the required changes – and maybe help to drive some of them forward.
